The final thesis for my Associates Degree in Fashion Marketing and Communications at Parsons School of Design is a book about the intersection between the Fashion and Web3 industry.

LETTER FROM THE AUTHOR

This research paper began with a simple question: what is Web3 exactly, and can fashion be part of it?. With a background in computer science and my current involvement in fashion marketing, it was only a matter of time before I would question the intersection between the two industries.

By the time I started researching, Web3, NFTs, Cryptocurrencies, and Metaverse had already hit their zeitgeist and their decline, but still remained a relatively unknown subject to the major population. As I began researching on the fashion related initiatives in the Web3 space, I realized how much confusion there was about the technology itself, and the direction that the fashion industry could take to build meaningful projects.

I wrote “Fashion and Web3: The Playbook” to provide the answer to my questions and help fashion executives to start exploring this space. The research develops in three stages:

- Part one: Introduction - I explain the main components of Web3, demystifying the vocabulary and introducing the concepts necessary to understand the projects currently seizing the Web3 industry.

- Part two: Case Studies - I digged into Nike’s multi-faceted strategy toward Web3 and it’s most successful project “.Swoosh”. Plus, I mention additional cool projects that set an example.

- Part three: Moving Forward - A deep-dive into Web3’s advantage in terms of privacy and data ownership at a time when internet users are asking for it, and a closing note of actionable steps to consider when starting your own Web3 project.

This book will be, at times, dense with notions, but it’s written with an academic approach to provide a toolkit for fashion executives. Take your time to read and absorb the information. Look up the companies and project mentioned and loose yourself in the rabbit hole of Web3, it’s really exciting to see a new industry taking form!
